My pulse is quickening just thinking about Walla Walla! And there are some cool changes to the race this year:
*the crit is now a twilight crit Saturday evening;
*the Waitsburg RR is on Sunday;
*the TT is longer at about 9 miles, and in Walla Walla (along with the crit);
*cat 3's now have 4 stages in the race, with Friday's RR included in the SR.
*the maximum number of riders per team in each category is 8. Wom Pro-1-2 and Wom 3 ride together, but are separate categories.

I just signed up!
Don't wait to sign up; registration started this AM and there's already about 20 signed up in the cat 4 men's and the cat 4 women's field is almost filled up!
Also, remember to get your hotel now. They fill up fast. I just booked a room at Best Western Inn.

BikeReg is down for maintenance! At least that means no one else can sign up, right?!

BikeReg is back up and it looks like the fields at Walla Walla are filling up. There's still plent of room in the pro12, and 3's, but the 4's and 5's are almost filled up. I guess there's no Masters catagories this year. www.bikereg.com/events/ConfList.asp?EventID=7983

Only 4 spots left in Men's Cat 5 and 16 spots in Cat 4 . . .

Only 4 spots left in Men's Cat 5 and 16 spots in Cat 4 . . . There's currently an exhaustive discussion going on through the WSBA listserve about the field size limits in Walla Walla. A few people were asking why the Women's 4 and the Men's 5 field sizes can't be increased beyond 50 riders. Steve Rapp had requested an increase in field size, but USAC denied the request. Essentially the answer is because field sizes are set for a reason: it's not safe to have large fields of novice riders. There was also the suggestion to have multiple Men's 5 and Women's 4 fields (like Men's 5 A,B,C). Steve's response to that was that there's not enough room on the course for so many packs. That sounded like a great explanation to me. For all the lower category riders that are left out, the message is clear: upgrade out of the novice category!

Men's Cat 5, Cat 4, and Women's Cat 4 FULL. Men's Cat 3: 91/110 filled up. Men's and women's pro12 still have plenty of room.

Our Cat 3 racers had a rough day on a mean course suited for climbers. Tomorrow will be better. In the meantime, here's today's Pro-1-2 finish: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9au5EXuMPqA

Congrats on a good crit Pat! You did it. It was a fast race and the entire lower end of the cat 4 field was pulled before the finish. I guess I'm going to give it a go tonight we'll see what happens.

No podiums in Walla Walla this year, but the roads around town are smeared with SRV guts. I'm proud of the effort our group put in on this tough stage race.
And Sarah went through a sleep-deprived crash-course officiating apprenticeship, so don't even think about crossing the yellow or you will be toast!

From Wheels in Focus.com: You can tell by my face that I was not having fun at the Time Trial: Pat tried to copy my face. I think he did a pretty good job: He then left those guys in the dust...
