From Spokane's Trip Reduction program's website, mycommute.org:
- Based on an hourly wage of $10.00, a motorist must work 300 hours per year to pay for his or her annual commute. A bicyclist only has to work about 30 hours per year to operate his or her bike. A rollerblader, skateboarder or walker is even less.
- The average commuter in Spokane travel 13 miles to get to work which is 26 miles round trip. The average car gets approximately 17 miles to the gallon. By not driving alone, you’ll save over $4 a day, $20 a week and $80 a month. In a year, you’ll save nearly $1,000.

And some people have to pay for parking on top of that.
