My son now lives near Spokane (Fairchild). He is very new to riding, but he wants to get a road bike and train to ride with me in the America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Tahoe next Spring 2010. What a cool way to bond with my son (if he doesn't deploy). Where can he go in the Spokane area to get fitted out and find a reasonable road bike that'll take all the training miles and get him around Lake Tahoe. My KHS is 17 lbs and that really helps on switchbacks and Old Spooner out there. Can someone give me some direction. I'll be up visiting him October 6th for a bit, and I'd like to go get him measured in and see some bikes. Thanks! Phill

Phill,
If he doesnt mind driving a bit, i'd say have him head up to North Division Bike Shop. They have the expertise to do a fitting (from quick to a complete fit), and of course lots to choose from for bikes (trek, etc).
If you want to get him into a KHS, Argonne Cycle is the nearest KHS dealer, though I dont know how extensive his fitting services are.
Shops closest to him would be in downtown spokane, Two Wheel Transit and Spoke N Sport.
Anyone else have suggestions?

I agree, Tim. North Division Bicycle Shop (10503 N Division) has probably the most all-around knowledgeable staff in town. They don't work on commission so they're not overly eager to sell you a bike just to make a sale, and they're really committed to getting every rider on a bike, whether the person's life is bicycling or maybe just interested in the sport.
