For any Windows users who'd like a decent free antivirus program, Microsoft Security Essentials is finally available. It works on Windows XP and onwards. Testers have given it good remarks for being unobtrusive and not bogging the computer down, and the detection rates are good too. This is what I use. There are three other popular free antivirus programs available for Windows: AntiVir, with very good detection rates, but a daily "splash screen" that advertises their premium versions. Avast, flashy (last I checked, it even talks) but with a history of relatively low detection rates. AVG Free Edition, whose detection rates have been improving from a lackluster past, but also getting some complaints that it's bloated.
