Taken and liberally reworded from another local rider's email:
Don't forget to support your local bike shop this winter. Each year it gets tougher and tougher for local shops to compete with big box stores and the internet. So, the next time you reach for the mouse next to your computer and click "purchase" ask yourself ......
1. will they give me expert advice and assistance when working on my bike?
2. will they fix my bike after I mess it up by working on it?
3. will they sponsor, organize, or run a cross country, downhill, road, or cyclocross race?
4. will they feed me hot wings, hot dogs, hamburgers, or whatever leftovers are sitting on their benches?
5. will they listen when I want to boast of my latest cycling escapade or injury?
6. will they plan and lead group rides for us?
7. will they let me drink beer in their parking lot after a ride?
8. will they provide sag wagon assistance and repairs at the next Tour de Lac, Lilac Century, or any other event?
9. will they congratulate me after a race win or console me after a loss?
10. will they give me swag for my next cycling party?
I think you know the answer to all these questions.
So, when tempted to buy cycling stuff (bikes, clothes, equipment, gels, powders, etc.) online or in the big box store just "STOP, DROP AND ROLL":
STOP your online browsing,
DROP your mouse, and
ROLL DOWN to your local bike shop and buy from them.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHOP SO ITS THERE WHEN YOU NEED IT.
