April 4 Garage Sale Benefits Pedals2People
Pedals2People.org is having their annual garage sale Saturday April 4th, from 9am -12pm. Come by for some super deals on bikes, parts, and even a dorm fridge. Last year's sale was a huge success, and they're hoping to have another great sale this year.
All proceeds benefit P2P programs. The address is 4218 S Garfield, and the garage is located in the alley behind the house. Park on the street, not in the alley.
April 12 Watch Paris-Roubaix at Steam Plant
Another benefit for Pedals2People, and a good time watching amazing bike racing with other cyclists. Meet at Steam Plant Grill, 1pm. Steam Plant—Spokane’s only great casual dining restaurant to feature covered bike parking--will donate to P2P for every food or beverage item purchased.
April 15 Bike Coalition/Federation Meeting
The Bicycle Advisory Board organized a “Bicycle Summit” held in mid-February to bring bike advocates and enthusiasts together to explore common issues and interests. Bike clubs, local bike shop owners, and nonprofits were invited to send a representative.
One result of the Bicycle Summit was an expressed desire to explore establishing a regional bicycling coalition. To that end, we have scheduled a meeting to discuss this proposition.
If you’re interested and willing to help, here’s the scoop:
• Who: You and anyone else you think should be involved in such an effort. Please share this invitation far and wide with cyclists and cycling advocates you think would be interested and willing to help.
• What: Initial meeting of a possible coalition of Spokane cyclists to promote cycling in the Inland Northwest.
• When: April 15, 6:30 pm
• Where: REI meeting room, 2nd floor, corner of Boone and Monroe
• Why: To determine whether there is adequate support to move forward with this proposition, and if so, to determine what initial directions to take, what to call ourselves, and who will do what should we move forward.
RSVP to bleckb3@comcast.net by April 10 to indicate whether you can attend. We hope to provide light refreshments and need a head count. If you cannot attend, please let us know if you are willing to volunteer for this project, if you have any expertise to offer, or what you are willing to do.

Monday, May 4, 6-7:30 PM, North Spokane Library, 44 E. Hawthorne Rd

Bike to Work Week Volunteer Opportunities
Our entire effort comes together thanks to the work of volunteers like you. Can you help?
Photographer needed: We need a photographer to take pictures at the Education Fair, kickoff breakfast, wrap-up party, and on the fly as opportunities arise. Able to donate your skills? Contact info@biketoworkspokane.org.
Helping out at Events
We’ll need volunteers to help at our events. Contact lead organizers if you can help with:
EduFair--Sunday, May 10, 11am-4pm, River Park Square: Amy, amyschruth@gmail.com
Kickoff Breakfast—Monday, May 11, 7-9am, Riverfront Park Gondola Meadows: John, johnmeline@yahoo.com. Volunteers needed to set up, staff various spots (e.g. bike corral, info table), tear down.
Wrap-up Party—Friday, May 15, 4:30-6:30pm, Steam Plant Grill: Barb, info@biketoworkspokane.org. Volunteers needed to set up, staff various spots (e.g. bike corral, info table), tear down.
May 13 Energizer Station Locations Starting to Roll. Can You Energize?
We have our first volunteers organizing an Energizer Station with coffee and some kind of goodies the morning of Wed. May 13. SpokaneBOMB will be at the corner of Aubrey L White Parkway and Rifle Club Road, which they hope is a good spot for folks riding in from the Nine Mile Falls area through Riverside State Park.
We’re looking for clubs, organizations and businesses that want to host an Energizer Station. We’d like to get at least one each in Liberty Lake, the Valley, North Spokane, South Spokane, Cheney, and Airway Heights. The more the merrier!
If you have a spot to suggest that you think will be utilized by quite a few, let us know so we can share that with the organizations that step up.
Bicycle Benefits: Deals for Wheels
This year we’re giving a Bicycle Benefits sticker to the first 1,200 people to register in Bike to Work Week. This snazzy little sticker will give you access to special discounts at participating businesses in Spokane, and nationwide if you travel.
The BTW volunteers are hitting the streets to line up the discounts. Our thanks to Press, the new coffee place on Grand, which is the first BB participant in Spokane. They’ll be installing a 5-bike rack come spring, so it will be easy to stop in for your special.
Want to bring hundreds and hundreds of loyal customers to your door on two wheels? Get in touch with bicyclebenefits@biketoworkspokane.org to find out how your business can be a BB destination.
New BTW Web Site & Registration Coming Soon!
Alt29 Design is hard at work on our registration programming and a great new look for the BTW web site.
When it rolls out, you’ll be the first to get an email inviting you to register for this year’s Bike to Work Week: bigger, better, and two days longer!*
Commute Challenge Presented by Group Health
Are you talking up the Commute Challenge at work? It’s time to start rallying your team, picking out a name, and thinking about a safety workshop or brown-bag lunch discussion with commuting tips.
We can help with workplace education—get in touch with learn@biketoworkspokane.org
Team sign-up will begin when we open registration. A team is 4-10 people, so if you have lots of people interested in participating, think about internal challenges. Can Accounting beat Marketing? What about Sales vs. Tech Support?
Two Days Longer—Really?
*Sunday May 10-Saturday May 16, so no matter what days you work, go to school, or run errands, your miles count!
See you out there!
