This morning's commute was a slick one. I learned very quickly that one does not apply any amount of force on the brakes or make any sudden movements--turns, lane changes, even coming to a stop--lest you end up on your duff.
My new tactic for riding on/over black ice: no-brake commuting. This means that I need to gage EXACTLY how much friction my free-hub will exert on my rear tire, how much friction my bearings in both hubs will exert, and how much wind resistance I can muster from making my jacket into a funny looking construction-worker-yellow parachute.
There was only a couple of slips, a couple of skids, but there as no falling. Dang, I'm good.
Now let the real fun begin: tonight's forecast calls for lots snow, dumb-ass drivers, and everyone in a rush to home on a Friday night. I can't wait! ;D
Stay safe out there. Hitting the ground ain't bad compared to having a car hit you then hitting the ground...
