29th Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games - Spokane
Attention Spokane Cycling Community: This is a request for your help with a great event.
The 29th Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games (NVWG) will be held in Spokane on July 13-18, 2009. The Spokane VA Medical Center and the Northwest chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of American will be hosting the games.
The games have been made a high priority project at the VA Medical Center; over 500 athletes are expected to attend. We will need approximately 3,000 volunteers for the five days of events. We are in the process of raising $250,000 through private and corporate donations and sponsorship.
I would like to see members of the vast cycling community of Spokane be involved with the week of events. The Wheelchair Games include track and field, basketball, archery, air rifle, rugby, bowling, power soccer, nine-ball pool, swimming, slalom, handcycling, and more.
As the chairperson of the handcycling competition, I am particularly interested in recruiting volunteers from the cycling community for this event. In the handcycling race, athletes race on a paved road circuit for either 5 or 10 kilometers (3.1/6.2 mi.). If you've never heard of—let alone been part of—Handcycling, these races are really quite exciting. Please contact me if you'd be interested in volunteering to staff the handcycling race.
If you would like to be involved with other events, or become a sponsor of the 2009 NVWG, please use the links below.
