This week will be the Chapman Lake "short" course. This is a fun course; about 20 miles long with rolling hills. Yes, it's basically a sprint to the finish Who's in? Sarah and I will be volunteering.

I'll probably do this one... trying to decide which group to start with, B or C. Mediocre fitness, little to no strategic experience, really crummy sprint. But my bike is nice and shiny!
BTW where exactly is the finish line? I recon'ed the course and it's slightly down-grade to that concrete bridge, then it kicks uphill a little as you go past the electrical station on the right. Is the finish on that evil uphill section, or is it beyond it?

I think it's near the bridge on a slight uphill section.

I want to race tomorrow but I have been sick I'll see how well I sleep tonight that will determine if I should race or wait another week. If I do feel up to racing tomorrow I would like to carpool with someone if anyone is interested.

We'll meet Sarah at EWU (she's taking the buss out in the AM) then go to Selnave Park.

I'm in- this will be my first road race. I want to race with my old bike before I get the new one- kind of like a control group so I can compare. I better get faster with the new bike or I'm asking for a refund. See you there.

As far as I know, I will be there. Alan, let me know if you need a ride. And congrats on completing a stage race longer than all my training for the last three weeks combined.

If they need an extra driver, I'll do that and if not I'll be racing (if you can classify it as racing). I have learned that defillibrators are not needed. All you need to do is duct tape a syringe full of adrenaline upside down to your road bar. When the time is right, simply drop your chest hard onto the syringe full of adrenaline and you're good to go!!!! ;D I would suggest doing so at the 200 meter mark for a win.

See you tomorrow I only have one SRV jersey but I bet someone will have one you could borrow. Oh, I dunno... The second time I pre-rode the course (solo), I led up to that bridge at a pretty high effort, then hit the uphill and tried to throw down a sprint. The cardiovascular overload was immediate and I had to break off the sprint almost instantly, it felt dangerous. I guess the lesson of the day for me is don't arrive at the 200m mark maxed-out unless you're just a lead-out guy

I seriously doubt you will want me associated with SRV for this race. I also don't know if my dues are current or not...

Nice job tonight. I'm not sure how the placings went tonight, but I saw some good racing from my spot on the corner.

Great day for racing, too. The weather doesn't get more inviting than that. And so it ended up for the C's. At the end, most of the pack was right there champing at the bit, but only the guys with front-row seats had a real chance. Tim and Stu and I had tried a break early on, hoping some strong riders from other teams would bridge up and help us stay clear. Instead, we got reabsorbed in the end, but in the inspirational words of Pat Sprute, "Life is short, ride hard, no guts no glory and all that. Go SRV." By the way, thanks Pat for helping me get my number pinned on. It didn't flap either, thanks to the extra pin

Tom, that's really cool that you three SRV riders were working on a break together. It sounds funny to say that, but on a small team, you don't always have two, let alone three teamates in a given race and even when you do it's not that easy to get everyone working together and in the right place to make it happen. I'm impressed. Stu must have had something to do with this. Sorry your break didn't stick, but most of them don't, and you won't even realize until your mind has had a chance to kick it around a while how much experience you gained just by making that attempt. A single lane sprint was the only safe and realistic option tonight and as you know, there's no chance in that situation if you're not near the front. Part of the great diversity of racing experiences that we enjoy as beneficiaries of Baddlands' Twilight Race Series. The more I race the more I see the disadvantage in being at the back 2/3 of the pack. Being in the front 3rd, though, takes a lot of physical but way more mental energy. Hope we get a chance to race together in C Pack before you get this racing business dialed in and get relegated to B Pack!

To Scott C., Scott B., and Royce: I have no idea what kind of trickery you doing in the pack last night but it worked. Thanks for holding back those broncos. Riding with Mike Gaertner and Gabe Varela was heart/lung/leg busting but totally worth it thanks to your support.
