Scott Willegalle and I were talking about how we, as cyclists, take our sport a little too seriously at times. I won't get into details (mostly comments about chamois cream, shaved legs, and driving 5 hours to race for only an hour) but we came up with this idea: The Inaugural Flat Pedal Ride and PotlockThe plan is this: Bring whatever bike you want--be it a full suspension mountain bike or a wind-cutting time trial--and we're going to take off those fancy-pants pedals and trade 'em in for a set of simple, shin scraping, back-to-childhood flat pedals. We'll roll a couple of miles and then end with a potluck.Details:Date: Friday, July 24 Time: Starts at 7 p.m.-ish Start and End Location: Scott Willegalle's house (5816 N Nettleton St) The Ride: Once around the River Loop (about 16 miles) Pace: Slow. (Trust me, if you haven't ridden flat pedals in a while, your only option will be slow...) Please bring something to share with the group. A grill and electricity will be available if you need to burn something. Hope to see you there! Alan

Awesome idea. Sounds like fun. I expect that me & Serena will be there. She makes a mean plate of BBQ beans I'm thinking I may be able to convince her to whip up & contribute Now if I only still had my Roger De Coster BMX from '83 i'd have the perfect ride to go with it.

Sounds like a homeless ride if I've ever heard one.

A reminder that this is coming up on*this* Friday - assuming it's still on and spouses/SO's are invited as well?

Yup, it's still on. And not only are spouses welcome--heck, encouraged!--but anybody who can ride a bike and pick their nose is welcome.
