As some of you already know, Shimano's trickling down some features from the fancy Dura-Ace 7900 to the new Ultegra 6700. I found some good pics and info here: autobus.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=/tech/2009/features/shimano_launch_new_ultegra09The first things you'd probably notice are the revised crankset (now with a hollow outer ring for stiffness), and the revised shifters (carbon lever blades, hidden shift cables). An Ultegra 6700 group is reportedly 107 grams lighter than Ultegra SL, and 151 grams lighter than Ultegra vanilla. I was also happy to see the 11-28 cassette, which should sell like hotcakes now that it's available at an Ultegra price point instead of a Dura-Ace 7900 price point.

And Alan is VERY happy about the 11-28 cassette. Will it be available in a nine-speed, or should I get with the times?...

There's a nine-speed Shimano 11-28 in the HG80 model, and SRAM has an 11-28 PG-950 for a lot less money ($35). Switching to 10-speed gets you one-tooth jumps further down the gear range... on my Soma's 9-speed 12-26 cassette, I feel the first two-tooth downshift (from the 15 to the 17) due to the larger change in cadence. In the big ring, that's happening at a speed where I really could use a one-tooth jump (like, 20-22mph) to get the cadence I want at the speed I'm trying to maintain.

I have the same issue with the jump from 15-17... 16 would be perfect (I assume). I just purchased a SRAM 27 - 11 (10-speed) cassette with a 17- 16-15 series, but have yet to ride it. I hope it solves the problem.
