I’m going to dedicate one night per week during September and October to work on cyclocross skills. Cyclocross mounts, dismounts, run-ups, barriers, sand, race strategy are all unique skills to cyclocross that you won’t understand until you see it done and practice it.
While I’m no expert, I've been racing cross for a few years and I’ve learned a few things from the experts. Those are my only credentials, but I think I can pass on some tips to the beginners.
This week let’s focus on cyclocross mounts and dismounts. Meet on Glass Avenue next to the Downriver Grill at 6:00 PM.

Ha! Thanks for noticing that. Since the VE series is on Thursdays, let's do Wednesday nights.

I would love to do this, but I have class on thursday nights. Since this is the last week of the monday night soft peddle, it could be on mondays at 6. Just an idea.

The bike didn't come with pedals, here are my options shimano ultegra/durace, pedals with toe clip cage type pedals, or nothing fancy pedals. What do you suggest would be best? other wise I will ride what I got.

What do you suggest would be best? other wise I will ride what I got. Definitely not the road pedals. Do you have some mountain bike pedals you could put on there? Toe clips cages are classic for cyclocross, but I would invest in some mountain bike pedals for that bike. Better for commuting too.

Peter, I have some leftover Shimano mountain pedals you can have, if you promise to use them They're heavy but tough. You would need to go buy a set of cleats (about $20) and you need shoes that accept SPD cleats (two-bolt mountain standard).

sounds like a deal! Tom will you be there Monday night? I probably won't be there myself, but here's what I'll do, I'll drop the pedals off at Mike's place and you can get them from him. Mike, I'm going to just leave these on your front porch.

Okay Tom, let me know when you drop them off so I can check out front. I just got back from dropping them off, they're on your front porch. The retention is probably cranked up to maximum, so Peter, if they're holding on too tightly, back out the adjuster screws about three clicks at a time until you find the setting you like.
