For my 9-speed road bike, it feels like there's too much extra travel in the rear derailler when I'm in 1st gear, sort of like the derailler wants to keep going into the spokes.
Can I simply screw (or unscrew?) the low limiter screw in the rear derailler to get rid of this extra movement? Will this affect shifting between gears?
The only reason I care is because when I'm climbing up a big hill I have the tendency to keep pressing on the level, hoping that there's another hidden mystery gear that I hadn't discovered. I don't want to ruin a wheel/derailler because I can't get it through my head that 9 gears is the only nine gears I have.
Thanks,
Alan

The answer is yes screw the limiter in (clockwise). Now take care to only turn it in until the extra play in the shifter is taken out. If you go to far it will not shift into that gear or skip between that and the next gear (to much limit). Spokes love to eat, Feed them deraillers to lighten your wallet! ;D
