I am thinking about selling my car and riding my bike everywhere. Would this be a good time to get a great big seat? How much would a great big seat run with installation. Thanks for your help. Do you guys race ? Would I need to change seats for racing?

Why don't you just ride without a seat? I know a guy in Seattle who says that makes him really fast.

I personally would avoid a great big seat. I haven't found them to be that comfortable--the chaffing, really. Although: a great big seat on a recumbant is awesome. Recumbants are basically lazy-boy recliners on wheels. It's a synergy of two of my favorit things: bikes and sittin' around.
What if you look into a quality seat instead of a great big seat. I'm pretty sure North Division allows you to try out a number of seats on a bike before you have to buy them.
North Division? A comment?
