On Saturday, several SRV members attended a USA Cycling Officiating Class. The class was held at the Bank of America building downtown. Many thanks to Julie Kelsey for working with with her firm to provide us with the top-flite facilities to conduct the training.
Phil Miller, a USAC official out of Redmond with tremendous accomplishments and experience as both a racer and official, volunteered his time to drive over and conduct the training. Phil has travelled the globe officiating USAC and UCI races and is a wealth of knowledge. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber and enthusiasm for our sport available to us!
As a result of this class, Julie Kelsey passed her upgrade exam and moved from a Category C to a Category B official.
Luann completed rules update training required to keep her Category C license current.
Mike Sirott, Sarah Wilson, Michael Conley, Eileen Hyatt, Alan Jacob, Tom Miller, Dale Perringer, Rick and Nikki Williams, and Pat Sprute passed their exams and are now Category C officials.
The significance of all this is that organized racing in our area (not to mention across the state and country) cannot exist without trained, experienced officials. Those who attended the class did so out of a desire to advocate for our sport and have collectively taken a significant step, on behalf of SRV, towards equipping us to organize and manage races.
Congratulations to all the upgrading/new/returning officials. A very big thanks to Mike, with his great vision for SRV, for recognizing the importance of providing this opportunity and then making it happen.
