So I was getting sick of looking at the "1000 mile March" post always popping up on the screen. Here's a new poll. I thought it would be interesting to hear your riding philosophy. I guess your style depends on your goals.

Just ride and eat well. Moderation is the key to enjoying anything. Beyond that is addiction and the path to...........never mind Just Ride.

I got soooooooo sick of monitoring my heart rate, matching that to my cadence, mathcing that to my speed, matching that to my gearing, matching that to the terrain and then doin git all again over and over through out the whole ride So one day this spring I just took it all off and sat up. I was like oh wow I have never noticed that barn before, oooh look at that stream and the trees. I have not looked back since. cycling has become fun again. I commute from cheney to spokane at least 3-4 times a week. But now that class is out I guess I will have to go back to schedualling my rides, unless where ever I go to work for has accomadations for me to be able to continue comuting. I just ride.

I agree, it's always most important to have fun... I don't see any other way I could do it.

Philosophy, plan? I thought HRM's were only for knowing when you are nearing a cardiac meltdown! You're telling me I should use it to train with? Do the pros know about this?

For the last several years I've worked my way through the season with a specific goal in mind. It's not that I stick to a concrete training plan, I just do different types of riding during different times of the year, i.e. recovery to long easy miles in the winter, with more intensity added in the spring and summer. Rest in the fall, and so on. So I picked periodization, even though I'm not as hard core as what I should be if I read the books.
