Hey all! Many of you know I'll be doing the Ironman on Sunday. I don't know if any of you are planning to come watch any of it, but I will be watching for some SRV people. I'll be wearing SRV clothing, so you should not have a problem seeing me go by. Hope to see some of you there! Rick

Good luck Rick. I'm sure you'll do great.
I'll be thinking of you during my 101 mile road race today, thinking maybe, just maybe, somebody else is suffering more than I will be. ;D

It went ok, but not quite as planned. The Ironman officials announced a few minutes before the swim started that anyone who wanted to could skip the swim portion, due to the dangerous conditions on the water. That is the first time they have ever had to do that. I went ahead and started the swim with everyone, but after 1 lap decided that I would stop and take the penalty. I honestly did not know if I could make another. I had to wait until 9:40 to start the ride. There was alot of us. I did the ride in 6.5 hours and the marathon in 6.5 hours. I finished in 15 hours 33 minutes. My swim time was basically 2 hours 20 minutes plus time waiting for the last person to transition. Obviously, I needed more open water training, but even several prior CDA Ironman finishers pulled out of the swim and took the penalty. I really don't feel too bad about it. After all, I did do 139.4 miles of the 140.6. It was my first Ironman and next time I'll make sure the swim goes better. I hope to be at the ride this Saturday. ONE MORE THING! Anyone up for joining me in 2009? Planning ahead!

Thanks Mike! I'm seriously planning for 2009. Not looking at next year. I'll wait until I'm 40 and go enjoy the pain again. I hope to talk someone else into enjoying the pain with me. It was awesome ;D One other note for everyone, you will not see my time listed officially, because we could not qualify for Hawaii. We did finish with our chips on and had to be sure to cross all the mats, but they did not want to take a chance on someone actually qualifying for Hawaii. My official finishline photo does show my time of 15hr 33min. Next time I'll take a few hours off of that!

Pat, It does not look like I will be making the ride this Saturday. I just don't think I have the legs for it yet. I feel good and have been out riding, but that course is much farther and harder than what I've done this week. I will miss the next ride also, because I will be in California with my daughter. Hopefully I'll make the one after that.
