The roads are dangerous this morning. On this morning's 4.5 mile commute through moderately busy roads, I experienced the following: - A silver mid-90s Honda Accord or Civic with tinted windows pulling out of a side street in front of me. I cleared his bumber by LITERALLY inches, not feet. I showed him an expressive hand gesture that he might not have seen. After all, he didn't see me in my bright yellow jacket, reflective piping on my tights, or the flashing light on the front of my bike...
- A couple cars and SUVs who decided that it was in their best interest to pass me with little berth and then promptly make a right hand turn into side streets or parking lots. I don't think they were considering my best interests as all...
- And even Mother Nature was out to kill me this morning: As I turned on to a side street--with proper signaling and all--I was suddenly sliding on my left side, splayed out all over the road. And I kept sliding. And I kept sliding. And still more sliding. Turns out this light drizzle and 30 degree temp is a great combination for wet ice. My left side was instantly on fire and I thought, "Holy crap! I've got some really bad road rash. But then I realized that was my body's way of telling me, "Hey, idiot, why are you laying here in a puddle of freezing cold water?! Get up and ride already. Plus, you're blocking traffic."
Best of luck to all you other commuters this morning. Aren't you glad it's the weekend?
Alan

I got lazy and got a ride to work in Sarah's death trap this morning. ;D Although last night at 10 pm riding down High Drive from the Rocket market was interesting, so I know what you're saying. Up for a spin to the Rocket tonight Alan?

Actually, Mike, I've got big Friday night plans: stay late at work, ride home in the ice/rain, and then prep my kitchen floor for vinyl. I'm such a homeowner. Thanks for the invite, though.
P.S. Are the ride leaders posted on the calendar yet? ;-)
