A few of us have talked Dan Gillespie into organizing a 2-3 day weekend Mountain Bike trip to north Idaho's Priest Lake. Last night at the race, Dan stated he would be checking into campground availability. If you think you would like to spend a great weekend of MTB in the mountains surounding beautiful Priest Lake, good food, great evening entertainment and best of all, great SRV company, sound off here and let us know of your interest. Most likely in early August!!! We'll keep you posted.

I have done a few rides at Priest Lake this year. I did “Bull dog”, the trail was awesome but it is quite short. If you guys camp in Luby Bay this would be a great night ride. I also did “Wood Rat”, this is not much of a trail anymore after the logging a few years ago. I also did “Lake View”, this trail in my opinion is a must do. The 3-mile climb from hwy 57 is a great climb and put the hurt on me. The decent is increasable and the trail was in the best shape I have seen in years. If you camp near Elkins You can make a great loop of it if you have a little local trail knowledge. I haven’t done “American Falls” This year but it is a must do trail. It is only seven miles in and seven back out but worth it. If you camp at beaver Creek it would be faster to ride to the trail head than to car all the way around the lake. It would be an epic day but I know you guys hammer. Stay away from “Plow Boy” going up from the upper lakeside. I took a group of seasoned riders up it last year and it was lots of hike a bike. Keep this thread updated with what you guys plan to do. Someone in your group may know the trails but if I can help let me know as I have done all the good stuff at Priest Lake many times. Hope I can ride with you.

Let me know the weekend and I'm about 90% sure I'm in. Priest Lake mountain biking is one of the smoothest rides I've been on.

My wife has (tentatively) volunteered to be Camp Cook for the weekend. If you know anything about my wife it's that she's a great cook. If you guys can nail down a date--early August has come and gone and mid-August is just next weekend--we can spend a great time riding and come back to meals fit for kings!
Let me know,
Alan

At last word with Dan G: We'll be riding in October, weekend not set yet, but will be soon. Bring a sleeping bag, a pair of warm socks, and your bear spray.

I do not think Dan will be involved as I heard from Dick that he has some sort of knee injury and has been off the bike for some time now.

I believe that most of the official campgrounds are closed that late in the season but I am not sure. I do know that beaver creek campground closes just after Labor Day. Keep that in mind as you cannot get fresh water if you plan on watering up at that site on one of your rides.

I spoke with Dan G. Monday night and he tells me that he's still planning the ride for October some time. I don't know the first thing about campsites--that's when you have to sleep on the ground, right?--but I do know that if Dan says, "it's a go!" then it's a go.
