My mom sent me a box of old elementary-, middle-, and high-school papers that she had been saving since, well, I was born. In the box was a Question/Answer paper that a fellow 8th grader wrote about me. And remember: a hundred dollars back then was probably the equivalent of two thousand dollars now ...
Here are some excerpts that made me laugh:
Alan Jacobs, Biking the Mountain
Alan Jacob likes mountain biking, and says, "My favorite thing about it is getting away from people, the excitement of speed, and the mud."
Q: What is mountain biking? Mountain biking is when you ride a strong bike with thick tires over a rough surface for a long distance.
Q: Where do you buy your bikes and how much do they cost? My first bike cost $100 and was a BMX racing bike, then I got a Huffy distance bike at K-Mart which cost $120, and then I got one from Warrendale Schwinn which cost $400.
Q: What color is your bike? My bike is mainly racing red, with black headset and white stickers. It's a Specialized Hardrock Sport.
Q: What kinds of bikes do you prefer for mountain biking? I prefer mostly any type of bike for it, except for the ones that have side pull brakes, skinny tires and little grip.
Q: Where have you been mountain biking? I have been to a park and in my neighborhood.
Q: What is the furthest distance you have gone? Away from home I have gone 30 miles. And my fastest time was 27 miles in one hour and twenty minutes.
