From mycommute.org, Spokane County Commute Trip Reduction website: "Based on an hourly wage of $10.00, a motorist must work 300 hours per year to pay for his or her annual commute. A bicyclist only has to work about 30 hours per year to operate his or her bike. A rollerblader, skateboarder or walker is even less."
1) Let's ignore the grammatically confusing "...a walker is even less," 2) While those rollerbladers might save a bit more than a cyclists, I'm not hanging up my bike yet and going early-to-mid 90's just to save some money.
Keep on rollin'

Ahh, yes, I don't argue, biking is better, but the arguement is flawed because the fuel is just in different substance. When I bike my ten mile commute to work in the morning, I eat an extra sandwich, an extra bag of pretzels plus a couple more oreos, all this give or take depending on how long a ride home I make it.
And bike tires are now just as expensive as tires for cars! The oil is cheaper though.

At some level this logic is pretty flawed since there is the factor of time spent not included.
Example It takes me: 35 minutes to drive 45 minutes to bike 1.5 hours to roller blade (guess based on 15 miles) 2.5 hours to walk (guess based on 15 miles)
Say we give two weeks vacation giving 50 work weeks per year 5 days a week w/2 commutes per day giving a 500 multiplier for the time difference.
I will say that their $300 budget to keep a bike running seems pretty small but so does 3k for the car (granted oil changes and insurance happen regardless). Now if I was one of those olympic speed walker guys.

No one is accounting for the entertainment value of commuting on a bicycle.
This morning I managed to disgruntle a man in a pick- up truck at 7 consecutive lights. Saturday as I was in the bike lane, one of our fine seniors honked at me as he passed. When I caught him at the light I noticed that he had a poodle in his lap. I suspect that it was the poodle that honked.
If I drove or walked to work it would be far less interesting and who can put a price tag on that.
