Hot off the wire: Please save the date for the SmartRoutes Community Rally on Oct. 20, 2008 from noon- 1 p.m. at the STA Plaza. There will be a bike corrall, and we'd love to see a huge convergence of bikes in downtown. We need *your* help to support Spokane's proposal for increased funding from Congress for non-motorized transportation projects. Please write this event on your calendar and forward this email or the attached flyer to anyone you think would be interested. If you or someone else in your workplace, particularly people in top positions, would lead a walk, bike ride, or bus ride to the Plaza, that will add to the effect of lots of people on the streets and increase media interest in the event as well as turnout. Councilman Richard Rush is leading people from City Hall, possibly joined by Mayor Verner; folks from WSU Spokane are leading a walk or bike ride from the Riverpoint Campus, possibly joined by EWU Spokane leaders; county employees will walk from the courthouse led by Todd Mielke; and we're hoping for lots more to have a stream of people converging in downtown. If your workplace will participate in this element, contact Staci Lehman, slehman@srtc.org, at the Spokane Regional Transportation Commission to let her know. barb Barb Chamberlain Bike to Work Spokane www.biketoworkspokane.org
